Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak: 4 Basic Prevention Tips you should follow

The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak is undoubtedly one of the most serious health challenges ever experienced in the world. It was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization on 30th January 2020.

Medical professionals all around the world claim that COVID-19 is a life-threatening disease caused by a new strain of Coronavirus. This new strain of Coronavirus was first reported in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in the People’s Republic of China. However, the virus-borne disease is now spreading all over the continents and causing a humongous number of deaths worldwide.

The disease is typically transmitted when a person comes in direct contact with the respiratory droplets (generated while coughing or sneezing) of a COVID-positive patient. In some unfortunate circumstances, people can also get infected if they touch their eyes, nose, or mouth after touching virus-contaminated surfaces.

Despite consistent and serious efforts, scientists and pharmaceutical companies have not been able to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 till now. As a result, the disease remains incurable and taking preventive measures qualifies as the best option to curb its outbreak.

Here are some basic preventive measures suggested by the World Health Organization that people should follow in order to prevent the spread of this disease:

1. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water; avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes

People tend to touch various surfaces throughout the day from where they can potentially pick up the virus. According to medical experts, the new strain of virus typically enters the body via eyes, mouth or nose if a person touches them with contaminated hands. Thus, people are suggested to wash their hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water in order to kill the possible virus residing on the hands. People can also use alcohol-based hand rubs or sanitizers manufactured by the top pharmaceutical companies in India for the same.

2. Maintain and follow social distancing

Social distancing is possibly the most important preventive measure that people need to follow at this hour. It can not only safeguard people from getting infected but also help in restricting the spread of the virus. As per the guidelines furnished by WHO, one should a maintain distance of at least 1 meter from any person who is either coughing or sneezing.

3. Seek immediate medical care in case you experience early symptoms like fever, dry cough and breathing difficulties

People are strongly advised to stay at home in case they experience any possible symptoms related to COVID-19. Fever, dry cough and breathing difficulties are some of the primary symptoms associated with the disease. If you experience any such symptoms, you should seek immediate medical attention.

4. Practice good respiratory hygiene

Good respiratory hygiene means that you should always cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue in case you need to cough or sneeze.

Lastly, people are essentially required to adhere to the rules and guidelines (like lockdown and sealing) furnished by the Government of India. Most importantly, we should all stay at home in order to save our society from this deadly virus.
